I ran my first marathon in 1996 at the age of 40. It was such an empowering experience, I was hooked and decided to travel and run to exotic destinations. It was a few years later when the injuries started to show up. It started with tight calf muscles resulting in chronic achilles tendonitis. During this time I went for frequent visits to the Physio and Sports medicine clinics, however, rest seemed to be the only treatment, and staying off my feet was the only preventative measure which seemed acceptable! It wasn’t until 1996 when I read Danny's ChiRunning book and started to incorporate the principals into my daily practice that I discovered this revolutionary running form, using posture and alignment, along with relaxation to prevent injuries and maximize running efficiency. It all made so much sense. I soon found out that it actually was working, and I no longer experienced the tightness during my runs and soreness the next day.
To Date I have run 18 marathons and several Triathlons, completing Iron Man Canada in August 2008. It is thanks to the chirunning technique that I am able to run injury free and feel compelled to share my success story with all those injured runners out there.
And for those starting to run, it is a preventative measure whereby the spin off is developing a wonderful relationship with the sport of running
Being a run coach with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, it was a great way to observe and practice this technique.
